I tried trad and the lack of transparency drove me crazy. I ended up gettting my rights back because they weren't upholding their part of the contract. If ever approached by one of the big five (or is it three now?), I'd be damned careful about what I agreed to. Trad, as a business model, just doesn't cut it these days.
I've been here with trad pub. So exciting ... at first. And when they put it on sale at the end of last year for 99 cents, they sold ~1000 ebook copies! And I made a total of ~$81. At first, I did make my most money with that one trad pub book, though. You write good articles, BTW.
Andy Weir serialized The "Martian" and later pulled it to make a runaway bestselling ebook. Then a trad publisher optioned the print rights.
J. K. Rowlings kept the ebook rights when Scholastic trad published it as print - and also kept all the merch and movie rights, I believe.
Trad is just digging their hole deeper.
Hybrid is the winner in this as their time-to-market is much shorter and ovethead is way less.
